PTA Picnic – Sunshine & Games!

Thanks to everyone who supported the Mile End PTA Summer Picnic last Thursday. It was a great success and the weather made it an especially lovely evening for all to enjoy.

Our Highland Games theme provided us with some really fun activities including throw the wellie, toss the caber and splat the haggis. Well done to Stirling and Crathes who won house points as winner and runner up in the Tug of War competition!

Our Highland dancers and drama students provided us with some wonderful Scottish entertainment, and of course adults were able to enjoy some delicious Scottish ales along with our other Scottish foodie delights!

A special thanks to all of you who helped out on the night. The event simply couldn’t run without your support. We extend our gratitude to Miss Sheppard and her school staff who supported us in planning and running the event.

We also say a huge thank you to all our friends, businesses and partners in the community who donated raffle prizes and made other invaluable contributions to our fundraising effort. Your support was invaluable and is greatly appreciated.

We will shortly be able to announce the final amount raised however indications are we have raised well over £5,500 – a  fantastic sum!

See you all next year!

PTA Fundraising News

The PTA is delighted to thank:

1) all the sponsors who supported the Mile End Nursery Scoot.  The Nursery raised an amazing £802 (as of 24 May – still rising and still grateful!).  Thank you children for scooting so hard, the organisers for their work, the Nursery staff for supporting the initiative and everyone for their generosity.

2) all those who shop using Easyfundraising on the Internet.  The PTA received £36.54 in respect of the last quarter.

3) all those who revived themselves with cakes at the Parents’ Evening.  An impressive £208.50 of donations were received.  Thanks to the hard working bakers.  Please note: there is the opportunity to bake for, and/or buy bakes from, the Highland Games on Thursday 30th May 2013, 6-8pm.

4) all those who purchased Second Hand Uniform at the Parents’ Evening.  £67 was raised.  This helps fund your school, makes uniform purchase cheaper and is very GREEN!

The PTA is pleased to announce that funds were provided to:

1) fund a project involving the hatching of chicken eggs in the Nursery, £245.

The PTA is always interested to receive information on funding ideas.

PTA Meeting of 17 April

The Mile End PTA met again on Wednesday 17 April and discussed a full agenda. Planning is well under way for a number of events this term. The PTA will participate in the Primary 1 Induction evening on 12 June, prior to which members will be on hand to meet with parents attending the Parents Evenings at the end of April. The main event of the term will be the annual summer picinic with Highland Games featuring as this this year’s theme. Planning is well under way for this event which will include a range of activities, games, refreshments and competitions – all with a Highland Games theme.
Volunteers to support the picinic are required to help with a range of tasks setting up, helping at the event and tidying up. Even if you can spare half an hour, your participation is vital to make this event a success.
Raffle prizes are also requested along with donations for the bottle and chocolate tombolas. Please consider what support you can give, and contact the PTA via the following email –

After School Language Club

Calling all parents!

Do you speak German? Would you be interested in giving an hour of your time once a week to start a German conversation group for P6/P7 pupils?

Looking for a German speaking parent, with disclosure, who would be willing to set to set up and run the club, on a voluntary basis, one afternoon per week at school. For a period of one hour – any day possible.
