Review of Past Events
Our second Mile End quiz night was held in March and raised just over £1000. A busy bar and some fine chilli made this a fun night with an edge of competition (the runners up from 2011 were on a mission!). Most difficult round was Science, most fun was Sports and it seemed Music and History had been combined, making it a real challenge for our youthful teachers. Thanks to all our question writers and quiz masters. Congratulations to the winning team of dads!
Early Years Jubilee Party
To celebrate the Jubilee and to raise money specifically for the ‘Early Years’, we held a Jubilee party on a sunny Saturday morning at the end of April. This had a lovely atmosphere with a great turn out from staff, pupils and parents. Thank you all – we raised around £1800 to be spent in the ‘Early Years’ classes (a scooter park and play packs being top of the list). We are currently wondering if that was a unique event or whether we should try to hold another ‘Early Years’ event with a different theme. If you have any ideas or would like to help organise this, please contact the PTA. Early years parents sometimes feel too new (or too busy with little ones) to help out with events, but this event really showed we could do it!
Annual Summer Picnic
Summer term brought another successful Mile End Picnic. This is our main annual fundraiser and relies on an army of helpers and a good turn-out from all at Mile End – we were not disappointed! Thank you to everyone who helped and who came along and took part in our sporting evening. We had everything from hockey and football to sumo wrestling, and from ‘guess the balls in the canoe’ to face painting and tattoos. We ate burgers, strawberry tarts, candyfloss and ice cream. And we raised a grand total of £3937.90. Thank you all. This will be well spent on extra resources for all classes at Mile End.
The family ceilidh is held early in the autumn session to welcome new families and to get us all back into the swing of things after the summer holidays. The band is really fabulous and all who attended had a great time. Look out for it again next year as we really hope the family ceilidh will become a highlight of the school year.
Children’s Fancy Dress Discos
There was much excitement in the playground in the lead-up to this year’s discos. Children and parents went to a great deal of effort to make amazing costumes – with iTunes vouchers going to the fancy dress competition winners! For the first time this year’s disco was hosted by Mile End’s very own DJs. Well done to the DJs who did a fantastic job and thank you to everyone who helped on the night.
Once again many families came along to have their very own studio session and portrait taken by The Family Portrait People. For only £12 everyone gets one framed photo print and other portraits can be ordered as well. These sessions seem to run like clockwork with families coming in and out of the school all Saturday for their ten-minute slot. Family photos make fantastic Christmas presents and is a great PTA fundraiser!
Carol Service: Mince Pies and refreshments
The annual Mile End Carol Service is a lovely way to get into the Christmas spirit. After the Mid Stocket church service we head up to the school for a welcome mince pie and hot drink. This is not a PTA fundraiser but simply a nice chance to catch up with friends and staff.
